HANCOCK - After a big win against Harpursville, the Afton Crimson Knights traveled to face Deposit/Hancock for their sixth game of the season. The Eagles, who were the 2023 defending class D State champions, threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but Afton was able to hang on to win 3-2.
The Crimson Knights attacked in the first inning with two runs as Ryan Wright led things off with a double to center field, stole third, and scored on an error during Matt Carmen's at-bat. Justin Reeves followed with a single and advanced to second on an error. Carter Burns showed power on a hard ball to right field to drive Reeves home.
With Wright wheeling and dealing on the mound, his offense cashed in one more run in the third inning as Wright hit his second hit of the day, stole second, and came in to score on Matt Carmen's RBI single.
Deposit/Hancock had three straight hits against Braydon Baciuska, who had replaced Wright in the sixth inning. The Eagles picked up their two runs on a two-run double, but the Crimson Knights' defense held them from any further damage.
