OXFORD – The fiery Afton Crimson Knights were on the road against Oxford Thursday afternoon, looking to extend their win streak. They did just that with a 18-0 shutout victory, which was a no-hitter for pitcher Justin Reeves. Afton’s win streak is now at six straight games and they now sit at 8-2 on the season, alone in third place behind Unatego/Franklin and Deposit-Hancock. Both Afton and Oxford also came off big recent wins against previous opponents.
Afton got on the board early in the first, plating four runs. The Crimson Knights added three in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth, and finally six in the fifth inning. The six-run fifth was brought on by some heavy hitters. After two batters reached on walks, Justin Reeves drove in a pair on an RBI double. Carter Burns singled and a walk loaded the bases for Landon James, who hit a base-clearing double. Wright capped off the inning with a RBI triple. James, Reeves, Burns, and Cooper Warren each had two of Afton’s totaling 13 hits. Reeves and James led the team with four RBIs each as Reeves also stole four bases.
Reeves allowed four bases runners with two walks and two errors, but otherwise, struck out 12 batters, including striking out the side to end the game.
