HARPURSVILLE – The Norwich Purple Tornado softball team traveled to Harpursville for a non-league match-up on Monday afternoon. The game couldn’t have gone any better for the Purple Tornado as they looked good all around from on the mound to up to bat. Norwich breathed a big sigh of relief as they picked up their first win of the season with a 16-0 shutout victory. Norwich scored 16 runs on eight hits and also took advantage of Harpursville’s defensive errors.
While Norwich looked good offensively, Madalyn Quattrocchi, who was honored before the game as the lone senior during Harpursville’s senior recognition, pitched a gem with a no-hitter, just allowing four base runners by a walk, hit by pitch, and two errors. She also struck out eight batters in the win.
Norwich got on the board in the first inning with two runs and added on with seven runs in both the third and fourth innings. Loralee Brown drew a lead-off walk before stealing second and third during the next at-bat. She came in to score on Emma Palmer’s groundout RBI. The second run scored on an error.
