NORWICH — It's time to get revved up for a smashing demolition derby competition taking place this weekend with the first inaugural Northeastern Nationals Derby. The event will be held by Rifanburg Racing Promotions at the Chenango County Fairgrounds, located at 168 East Main Street, Norwich.
“We'll have about 200 cars registered and ready for smash up,” said Rifanburg Racing Promotions owner Tristan Rifanburg. “Cars range from full size to compacts and are from the 1950’s, up to current models.”
“The main class payout will be $10,000 to win and on Sunday, there will be $25,000 in total payouts,” he said. “Teams will also receive four foot tall trophies.”
He said the gates will be opening for drivers and campers at 6 p.m., Friday, May 3, at the fairgrounds, with pit spots and camping spots being first come, first serve. Sites are $50 per night.
“Gates will open at 8 a.m., Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5,” Rifanburg said.
General admission for parking and grandstand access will be $20 per person, per day. A weekend Pit Pass is $20 per person.
General admission for a weekend pass will be $30 per person and an All-Access Weekend Pass, which includes two day parking, two day grandstand access, and two day pit pass will be $50 per person.
Children under 10 years of age receive free general admission and individuals must be at least 16 years of age to enter the pits.
