OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks baseball team honored its lone senior, Ryan Humphreys, prior to its game against non-league, but local county opponent Sherburne-Earlville. Both teams gave each other a battle down to the finish in a back-and-forth affair. S-E fought back to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning, which Oxford answered back in their final at-bats to win the game 9-8.
Oxford notched four runs off S-E’s Wes Fisher in the first inning. Conner Dunagan led things off with a triple and scored on Degan Endress’ groundout RBI. Landen Olinski followed through with a long single as Nic Dodzweit reached base on an error. Both would score on RBI hits by Kyle Benjamin and Brent Hamilton.
S-E answered back with two runs of their own in the top of the second inning off Dunagan. Haden Holcomb drew a walk as Fisher had a drop single to right field. Tomek Jusianiec brought in Holcomb with one of two base hits as Chad Nower drove in Fisher on an infield single.
