AFTON – The Afton Crimson Knights baseball team is heading to the MAC championship after defeating Delhi 9-1 in the semi-finals. Afton, who earned the top-seed after a three-way tie for first, won their 11th straight game with strong pitching and great hitting all-around. The Crimson Knights scored nine runs off 12 hits while Ryan Wright only allowed one run in the first inning. Afton also got a chance to honor all its seniors prior to the game start, since senior Spencer Wrench was away for FFA. Congratulations to Wrench, Jonathan Crosby, Justin Reeve, Landon James, Carter Burns, and Braydon Baciuska.
After Delhi took an early 1-0 lead, Afton didn’t let that stop them from getting into their solid offensive mode, which they’ve had all season and through their win-streak. With two outs, Matt Carman reached on a walk before hustling in to score on Justin Reeve’s RBI double. That play would tie it, but the Crimson Knights were not done. Reeve scored the go-ahead run off Carter Burns’ RBI single to center field. From there, Afton kept the lead and extended it further on.
