GILBERTSVILLE — The Butternut Valley Grange in Gilbertsville is planning a special meeting on Monday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Grange Hall rooms at 7 Bloom Street, where the 90th anniversary of its May 1934 organization will be celebrated.
On the agenda is recognition of several members who are reaching a milestone anniversary in their Grange membership in 2024. At the conclusion of the meeting and program, all members are encouraged to participate in a group portrait to commemorate the evening, followed by cake and milk punch for all. Community friends are invited to attend the celebration.
The annual baking contest of pumpkin bread will be conducted at this meeting. Entries should be delivered by 7:15 p.m. to Sandra Stoy, Chairperson of the event. Questions may be directed to her at 607-297-0937.
Plans for possible participation in the National Grange health needs of rural Americans will be shared and determinations made as to next steps.
Members are reminded to bring loose change for the collection for the GMU Backpack program that will run through the July 8 meeting.
At the April meeting, results of various Family Activities competitions were announced by Sandra Stoy: decorated tea cup - Anna Ritchey, 1st; Helen Ritchey, 2nd; Anne Sebeck, 3rd; and Sarah Galley, 4th. Bed-sized quilt - Karen Johnson, 1st. Table topper or runner - Paula Evans, 1st; and Karen Johnson, 2nd. Woodworking - Cathy Galley, 1st. Baby blanket - Lynne Porter, 1st.
The Grange will be assisting Miller’s Barbecue in Unadilla on Mother’s Day, May 12, and also preparing the meal for the Share the Bounty program in Sidney on May 23. The Grange is hoping to participate in the Unadilla Valley School’s Eat Through the Alphabet event on May 16.
Under the leadership of Emily Campbell, an upscale brunch will be served to the public on Saturday, May 18 at 1 p.m. Reservations for this event are necessary by contacting Campbell at 646-734-0042.
Paula Evans is coordinating raffle sales for a beautiful quilt that will be available through December.
