City Of Norwich Youth Bureau Announces Summer Recreation Programs

NORWICH – The City of Norwich Youth Bureau will be offering 11 different programs for area youths this summer.

Programs will include cheer, soccer, flag football, tennis, pickleball, basketball, baseball, softball and new this year, karate and ultimate frisbee. All programs are free to area youths.

Cheer, soccer, flag football, tennis, basketball, baseball, softball, and karate are open to 6 to 13 years old. Ultimate frisbee and pickleball are open to 18 years old. The recreation programs will run for 6 weeks, starting July 8th, except for cheer which will start July 1. Most programs will take place from 12:30 to 3:30 at Weiler Park.

New this year is karate and ultimate frisbee. Karate will be at Genbu-Kai Norwich through Cindy Miracle. Classes will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Genbu-Kai dojo located at 13 S. Broad St in Norwich. Karate is open to kids from 6 to 13 years old. Also new this year is Ultimate frisbee. Kids aged 13 to 18 years old can learn the basic skills and rules of Ultimate frisbee.

The Youth Bureau continues to offer seven levels of Red Cross certified swimming instructions at Kurt Beyer Pool. Swimming lessons will be from 9 a.m. to noon daily, with the first session starting July 8th. Lessons are open to anyone up to the age of twenty-one. Lessons are in the morning to have the pool open to the public at noon.

The Youth Bureau also has 5 summer trips planned for the year. The Youth Bureau will be going to The Wild Animal Park, Ross Park Zoo, Wonderworks Destiny, Rail Explorers, and Water Safari this summer.

All registrations will be online this year, making it easier for parents. Registrations can be found at the Youth Bureau’s Facebook page or through the City’s website; www.norwichnewyork.net/government/youth.php. Registration for the summer trips will be at a later date.
