NORWICH — Last week, the Chenango Family Co-Op Book Club held its inaugural gathering at C.S. Miller Books, located at 14 Adams Street, marking the beginning of a new tradition for book enthusiasts in the community.

Shop Owner Jason Miller and member of Chenango Family Co-Op Book Club said the club focuses on literature that explores themes related to rural living, both in fiction and non-fiction.

“These books serve as a bridge, connecting readers with relatable elements of their lives, while igniting discussions on how to enhance and build our community,” said Miller.

He said they had a nice group show up for the event and their first selection was Nick Romeo's “The Alternative: How to Build a Just Economy.”

“This timely release ignited a passionate discussion among us, as we were inspired by Romeo’s innovative economic ideas.”

He said the book suggests many progressive strategies, some of which are already taking root in our own community, such as the thriving community gardens, various non-profits pooling resources for local needs, and robust youth sports organizations.

“As globalization contracts, “The Alternative” offers a roadmap for empowering communities through cooperative and employee-owned movements, reminiscent of the credit union movement and modern decentralized social media and crypto platforms,” Miller said.
