OWEGO – On June 1, Norwich High School senior M. Gabe Blenis participated in the American Challenge powerlifting tournament held in Owego. Gabe competed in the 220 weight class for the 100% Raw drug free federation.  Gabe competed in the squat, bench, and deadlift competition.  

The highlight of the day was when Gabe captured the state record in squat with a lift of 500 lbs.  It should be noted that Gabe holds the NHS squat record of 605 pounds.

Many thanks go out to his mentor and coach Tom Stoddard for his many years of encouragement and efforts . Gabe will continue his education and athletics at Utica University, where he will join the Utica Pioneers Track and Field team.
