NORWICH — The Hometown Heroes Committee will be hosting a dedication ceremony on Flag Day, Friday, June 14 at 10 a.m. on Norwich's East Park stage, rain or shine, to kick off the second annual display of banners honoring veterans throughout the City of Norwich.
Those who can't attend the in-person event can watch it live on the Norwich Hometown Heroes Program, Norwich, NY Facebook page.
The 30-inch by seven-foot banners will feature current or former service members both living and deceased, who are current or former residents of the Norwich City School District, and will include their name, branch of service, and photo on the front and back.
"This is about us doing this for our veterans of the community," said Chenango County Veterans Services Director Joe Coe. "A lot of different things have occurred over the last five years, and this is just one of them that’s another stepping stone that we have put together, and I’m excited about it."
The committee said they will be honoring about 75 new veterans, which is even more than last year. The banners will remain on display until Veterans Day this year, and the third round of banners will be hung around Flag Day in 2025.
