NORWICH – After the conclusion of the inaugural Commerce Chenango Pickleball tournament in downtown Norwich on June 1, the tournament’s proceeds were shared with community youth programs.
The tournament fees, $25 a person with 40 teams in total, and other sources went towards the building of pickleball courts at Weiler Park.
On Wednesday, Commerce Chenango President, Sal Testani donated proceeds to both the Norwich Family YMCA and Norwich Youth Bureau.
Norwich YMCA Executive Director Jamey Mullen accepted the donation on the YMCA’s behalf.
The funds will go to a scholarship for a high school aged YMCA membership.
Norwich Youth Bureau Director Anthony Testani said the funds, $2,000, will be used to install pickleball courts at Weiler Park.
Commerce Chenango also thanked Preferred Mutual for donating pickleball paddles for this project.
