CHENANGO COUNTY – Sunday night, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a heat advisory for a significant portion of central New York.
The NWS warns that heat index values of 95 to 100 are expected, and these “high temperatures and high humidity may cause serious heat illness.”
The advisory begins at noon on Tuesday, June 18, and lasts until 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. The extreme heat coincides with the summer solstice on Thursday.
It affects Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Otsego, Schuyler, Stubem, Tioga, Tompkins and Yates counties.
According to the NWS, the temperature in Norwich will be 93 degrees Fahrenheit at the high on Tuesday and 69 degrees Fahrenheit at the low. On Wednesday, it will be 93 degrees Fahrenheit at the high and 67 degrees Fahrenheit at the low. On Thursday, it will be 91 degrees Fahrenheit at the high and 67 degrees Fahrenheit at the low.
