NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley Pony League baseball is back in action for the 2024 season and the team started off with a bang. UV held on to a 11-10 victory over Oneonta Weaver in Monday’s summer ball season opener. UV is in Division B this year outside of other local Chenango County teams in division A, but will play non-league local match-ups midway through the two-month season.
UV scored 11 runs on seven hits off the hot bat of Nolan Lewis, who was solid on the mound and at the plate. Lewis led the team with three hits, including an RBI double in the fifth inning and had singles in the first and third innings. He also started on the mound and went three and two-third innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits, six walks, and struck out seven batters. He received a no-decision with UV securing the final lead late in the game.
UV built a 5-0 lead, thanks to strong hitting and base running by Zayne Dibbell. Dibbell had a two-run single and a ground-out RBI as well as two stolen bases. Oneonta Weaver tied the game in the top of the fifth, but UV answered right back with Lewis’ RBI double and a run scored on an error.
