PHILADELPHIA – Several local Chenango County athletes attended the New Balance outdoor track Nationals meet that ran last Thursday through Sunday, June 16. Athletes from Bainbridge-Guilford, Oxford, and even Norwich had a great season and funded their way to attend the prominent meet outside of their respective teams. Great effort to Norwich’s Lucas Craddock and Gabe Decker, who attended, but did not place.
BG:
The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats were represented proudly as Harpo Hardt, Marissa Mayo, Maddie Ingham, and Matthew Wombacker all attended Nationals. Coach and Athletic Director Nick Mayo said that all four turned in some great personal records for the year and placed a lot higher than seeded.
Hardt went for the triple jump, where he jumped 40 feet, six and 3/4 inches. The freshman finished 42nd out of 67 competitors.
Marissa Mayo, an eighth grader, competed in the middle school girls’ shot put event, where she took 17th with a throw of 32 feet. Fellow teammate and middle schooler Maddie Ingham finished 13th in the girls’ 800 meter run. Ingham had her best time, running 2:19.78.
Sophomore Matthew Wombacker placed seventh in the one mile race walk in the championship bracket and walked 7:31 for a 40 second personal record.
Congratulations, Bobcats.

Smith finished second out of 81 competitors in the mile with a time of 4:33.88, just short of the leader’s 4:33.64. Smith also took second out of 60 middle school boys’ in the two mile, coming second to the same leader as the mile. Smith ran the two mile in 9:46.93, where the leader finished in 9:11.70.
