SHERBURNE – It was a friendly local match-up between the Sherburne-Earlville and Oxford PONY League teams on Monday evening. After a light rainstorm throughout the day, the teams were blinded by the sunshine, marking a perfect night for baseball. S-E picked up their first win of the season with an 11-2 victory. S-E scored nine unanswered runs after Oxford tied the game at two a piece in the top of the second inning.
Oxford jumped on board first as Conner Dunagan led off the inning with a four-pitch walk and stole two bases. He came in to score off an error. S-E also got on the board early in the bottom of the first, but with two runs. One run scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch before Nolan Sigman hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in a run.
Oxford tied the game in the top of the second inning as Blake Barrows, who hit a single to center field, stole second as he got into a pickle with the defense trying to throw him out, but he was safe. Barrows made it to third on a wild pitch before scoring on the next wild pitch. Ben Sheridan also had a base hit in the same inning and made it to third base on an error and stolen base, but failed to score as S-E’s Lucas Newman fired up on the mound.
