NY State Police Investigating A Drowning In Broome County

BROOME COUNTY – On June 22, 2024, at 4:09 p.m., State Police in Binghamton responded to the Tioughnioga River near 4139 State Route 11 in the town of Lisle regarding a possible drowning.

The investigation determined that an 11-year-old male from Marathon, NY, was fishing with friends and decided to jump in the water to swim when he went under the water and didn't resurface due to the strong current. 

At 7:15 p.m., the victim was located deceased in approximately eight feet-deep water by the Broome County Dive Team.

There were no signs of foul play, and the scene was consistent with an accidental drowning.
