FRANKLIN – After facing Sherburne-Earlville on Monday, the Oxford Blackhawks PONY league team was back in action on Thursday against Unatego/Franklin. It was a wild one for both teams, who were hitting the ball well as both collected 14 hits throughout an eight inning game. Oxford battled back and scored the game-winning run in extras to win 13-12 to go even at 2-2 for the summer season.
The game was a back-and-forth affair with Unatego/Franklin. They seemed to gain a great control of the game, building a 3-0 lead in the first and expanding to go up 5-2 after three. However, Oxford put up six runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 8-5 with their first lead of the game. U/F fought back in the bottom half of the inning to tie it up at eight.
Oxford plated three runs in the sixth, but U/F put up two in the bottom half. Oxford added an additional run in the top of the seventh, but their feisty opponent tied it up at 12 with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
With the game in extras, Oxford had a lead-off single by Eddie Ingraham, who then stole second on Ben Sheridan’s at-bat before going to third and scoring on a passed ball during Noah Chesebro’s at-bat. Nic Dodzweit kept Unatego/Franklin off the board and off base in the bottom of the eighth with a strikeout and two fly outs to end the game.
