NORWICH – It was a busy weekend for the Norwich Post #189 Legion baseball team as they played three games, including a double header on Saturday. While all three games were losses for Norwich, the team battled with both Cooperstown and Endicott to keep each game close.
Friday vs Cooperstown:
On Friday night, Norwich fell in a close 5-3 game against Cooperstown. Norwich scored first as Kaden Downey drove in Zack Parker, who drew a lead-off walk and stole two bases, to make it 1-0. It stayed 1-0 until Cooperstown put up a five-run third inning.
Norwich got two back in the bottom of the sixth inning with Collin Reid’s RBI single and Kassen Stubb sacrifice fly, but couldn’t fully make the comeback they needed. Reid led the team with two hits while Downey, Zac Turner, and Jackson Sastri each had one hit.
Zack Parker and Braden Reid split time on the mound with Parker going five, allowing five runs, three earned on five hits, four walks, and struck out nine batters. Reid finished the game, allowing just a hit, a walk, and had three strikeouts to total 12 on the day for Norwich pitchers.
