OXFORD – After some time off, the Oxford Blackhawks PONY league team was back in action to host Whitney Point. It was the second time these two teams faced each other this summer with Oxford taking the first game 8-6 on June 20. Oxford swept the two-game set with a 9-3 win on Monday night.
Oxford got on the board in the top of the first inning as Conner Dunagan led off the inning with a triple to left field and scored on Nic Dodzweit’s RBI single. Uri Tracy followed with a double and Dodzweit scored on Blake Barrows’ groundout to make it 2-0 Blackhawks.
Whitney Point tied the game at two in the top of the fourth inning, but Oxford went ahead 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning off an error before having a big fifth inning.
Oxford scored six runs in the fifth as Ben Sheridan and Josh Knapp both walked to start the inning. Sheridan stole second base during Knapp’s at-bat and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Beckwith. Degan Endress drove in a pair on a double to center before Nic Dodzweit drilled a three-run home run to centerfield off a new pitcher on a 2-2 count. Dodzweit finished with two hits and four RBIs.
