SHERBURNE – After a break in the schedule, the Sherburne-Earlville PONY league team took the field against Unadilla Valley on Tuesday night. S-E won the local county match-up 13-3 through five innings. S-E now stands at 2-2 while UV drops to 2-4.
UV got on the board first as Zayne Dibbell drove in one of two runs on the night with a RBI double. Dibbell would also drive in a run in the top of the fifth inning to finish 2-for-3 at the plate with two stolen bases and two RBIs. Teammate Nolan Lewis also stole two bases.
S-E went ahead 6-1 in the bottom of the first inning off two hits. Aside from some bases-loaded walks, the highlight of the inning was Cooper Thorpe’s two-run single. Thorpe also drove in runs with a bases loaded walk, and another two-run single in the bottom of the third inning to make it 10-2 S-E. Lucas Newman, Haden Holcomb, Jason Daring, Jack Bohnert, and Deagan Knochenmus all drove in one run.
Thorpe finished with two hits, five RBIs, and along with Kaiden Briggs, he had two stolen bases of the team’s total of seven. S-E also totaled 11 walks with three to Tomek Jusianiec.
Aside from Dibbell’s two RBIs, UV scored one run in the top of the second inning off a wild pitch. This came after Zack Welch stole third base and scored on the next pitch.
