NORWICH – The Norwich Gus Macker 3 on 3 basketball tournament returns for its 27th year on July 13 and 14. After two years at the Norwich High School, the Norwich YMCA and Gus Macker committee are proud to announce the tournament is back downtown. It will be the first time in five years that the tournament returns to East Main Street after the last two years were played at the Norwich high school. The official Gus Macker tournament also marks a special milestone as Macker was established in August of 1974 and celebrates 50 years. The Norwich Gus Macker tournament began in the summer of 1996, but due to unforeseen circumstances, celebrate 27 years while its existence is longer.
“We cannot thank Scott Ryan, Joe Alger, Jim Mucha, and the rest of the staff enough for a phenomenal two years of holding Macker at the high school. It was only temporary to hold the tournament at the school,” Tom Revoir, Norwich YMCA Sports Director said. “Macker is street ball. It is made for the streets. We weren’t able to fit more courts at the school and I know we are able to fit a lot more in the streets by going straight down.”
