NORWICH — The Chenango Arts Council's Kids Summer Art Camp starts next week, and there are a few spots left for young local artists.
Sessions are July 29 to August 2 and August 5 through 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day at the Chenango Arts Council, located at 27 West Main Street in Norwich.
Kids aged 10 to 14 years old can attend, although Chenango Arts Council Administrative Assistant Mary Beth Miller said they will open camp to kids a little younger if needed. Kids can sign up for one week or two, and the cost to attend is $100 per week. To register, visit ChenangoArts.org.
Kids Summer Art Camp is taught by Leah Dobbin, who will teach participating kids about painting, drawing, ceramics, and more.
"She teaches a lot of techniques, but she also lets the student kind of carry on their own visions. It’s kind of like instruction but then also a lot of room just to have fun and to do what interests you," said Miller. "They’ve done a lot of different kinds of projects. I’m not sure this year what she’ll come up with. There’s been some really cool ones in the past with different mediums and different supplies like tissues and foils and things like that."
Camp attendees should bring lunch each day. Miller said the Arts Council will have snacks on hand as well, and Chobani often sends yogurt as a snack as well.
"It’s all kinds of mediums and all the supplies are included. So all you really have to bring is some lunch and some clothes that you can paint in and you’ll be good to go and have a good time," said Miller. "We recommend wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on, but we also have smocks and things for kids, too."
