UNATEGO – After a strong finish in the final regular season games, the Norwich PONY League baseball team traveled to Division ‘C’ Unatego for the quarterfinals. Norwich fell 12-4, ending the summer season with a 5-4 record.
Unatego struck first with a six-run first inning before adding on with three more in the second. Down 9-0, Norwich answered back with two runs in the third and fourth innings. Bo Brown, who started on the mound for Norwich, led off the third with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice play. He stole third and scored on Pierce Sherman’s two-out infield single. Sherman stole second and scored on Luke Waters’ RBI single to left field.
Norwich’s final runs came in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs. Gavin Burrell walked, stole second, and scored on James Sprague’s double to right field. Sprague scored on Sherman’s second hit and second RBI of the night.
Bo Brown went three and two-thirds on the mound, allowing 10 earned runs on 10 hits, three walks, and one strikeout. Gavin Burrell took over in relief, going the final two and a third innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits, one walk, and struck out two batters.
