NORWICH — Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds will take the stage at 7 p.m., Thursday, August 1, in East Park, located at 1 South Broad Street. This marks the fourth performance of the NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series season.

According to the Chenango Blues Association, “For nearly a decade, Sister Sparrow and The Dirty Birds have been hailed for their explosive brand of modern soul.”

“The band based itself in Brooklyn and soon earned a reputation as one of the hardest working outfits anywhere in the world, playing upwards of 150 shows each year including headline dates, sold out residencies, and top festivals,”reported the Chenango Blues Association.

“Sister Sparrow, Arleigh Kincheloe’s nom de disque, is a soul queen,” raved The Washington Post, while NPR simply noted, “one of the biggest voices in rock music.”

Upcoming shows in the NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series are Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds on August 1; The Garcia Project on August 8; Blood Brothers and Los Blancos on August 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m.; the Sam Bush Band on August 22; and Keller Williams on August 29.

The 31st annual Chenango Blues Fest is on its way as well. This year's festival will be held on August 16 and 17 at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.

The free Thursday concert will include local food and beverage vendors from Happy Pappi, Nina's Pizzeria, Hubcap Munchies, Gilligans Ice Cream, Lickity Split and Deja Brew.

Food and bar service will be available at Park Place's Beer Garden, adjacent to East Park.

The concert is rain or shine but in the event of potentially dangerous weather, shows will be moved to another location and posted on the Chenango Blues Association Facebook page and other social media plateaus.

The free Summer Series Concerts are sponsored by NBT Bank, the RC Smith Foundation, the Greater Norwich Foundation and additional generous foundations.

The Chenango Blues Association (C.B.A.) is a nonprofit 501(C)3 organization whose mission is to foster an appreciation of uniquely American music forms including blues, jazz, zydeco and gospel.

All the activities of the C.B.A. are governed by a volunteer board of directors drawn from Chenango County.
