SHERBURNE – The trial of a former Sherburne-Earlville bus driver indicted on sex crimes approaches the end as witnesses finish testimony.

Prosecutors alleged Douglas C. Webb, 64, of Sherburne, groped three teenage students while on the job. It was later revealed by state police that Webb had failed to disclose a previous conviction to his employers on his bus driver application.

He was indicted in 2022 on one count of first degree offering a false instrument for filing with the intent to defraud, a class E felony, one count of second degree falsifying business records, a misdemeanor, three counts of forcible touching, a misdemeanor and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Webb could face a state prison sentence if convicted of the top count. If convicted of the sex crime charges, Webb would also be required to register as a sex offender.

An article about the trial's verdict will appear in an upcoming issue of The Evening Sun.
