NORWICH – The 2024 Greater Norwich Foundation scholarship recipients were recognized at NBT Bank in Norwich on Wednesday, July 25.
The recipients of the Greater Norwich Foundation scholarships are recent Norwich High School graduates.
The awards and students included: the Alan Horovitz All Around Student Award, Michael Blenis, attending Utica University; the Alan Horovitz Sports Person of the Year Award, Olivia Schiraldi, attending SUNY Cobleskill; the Clara Robbins Memorial Scholarship Awards, Kathleen Bordonaro, attending Broome Community College; Sophie Carnachan, attending LeMoyne College; Juliana Turner, attending Broome Community College; Tessi Ulrich, attending SUNY Morrisville; the Marcia Stewart Memorial Scholarship, Caden Stone, attending Oberlin College; the Esther C. Flanagan Scholarship, Ibrahim Ibrahim, attending Rockland Community College; the Thomas H. Ivory Scholarship, Patrick White, attending Broome Community College; the H. William Smith Jr. Technical Scholarship, River Rivenburg, attending Broome Community College; the Robert N. Endries Scholarship, Anthony Pomares, attending University of Hartford; the John M. Endries Scholarship, Gillian Safavizadeh, attending Bryn Mawr College; the Margaret Newton Forsythe Scholarship, Julia Llewellyn, attending SUNY Morrisville; the John & James Westcott Scholarship, Jason Lian, attending University at Buffalo; the Joseph Rotundo Memorial Athletic Scholarships, Spencer Root , attending SUNY Buffalo State; Holden Ryan, attending West Virginia University; the Harrison and Betty Edwards Science Scholarship, Braden Reid, attending SUNY Cobleskill; Dr. Thomas M. Flanagan One Year Scholarship, Regan Roach, attending Palm Beach Atlantic University; Clara Robbins One Year Scholarship, Emerson Burton, attending Cornell University.
Most of the scholarships given by the Greater Norwich Foundation are named for a past benefactor. This recognition of generosity to the foundation is not a required condition and is meant as a tribute to those individuals.
This year the foundation increased the Robert N. and John M. Endries Scholarships available to a graduating senior to $2,000 for two years. This will be an annual scholarship going forward.
For 2024, the foundation also had two additional one-time scholarships; Dr. Thomas M. Flanagan and Clara Robbins Scholarships that were awarded in the amount of $2,000 and $4,000 respectively.
In total, over $100,000 in scholarships was awarded this year by the Greater Norwich Foundation. In addition to the above scholarships, the Greater Norwich Foundation provided a total of $450,000 to non-profit community organizations in the greater Norwich area during the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024.
