NORWICH – The 66th annual Canasawacta Country Club Member-Guest tournament was underway on Thursday with the first of three rounds. 88 teams were split up into two shotgun start times, where the weather was brutally hot.
The morning round saw many 67s and 68s to start things off, especially from last year’s winners, Lee Skillin and Jim Gorski. However, there were 11 under par scores to finish off the first round.
John Fern and Max Britton put on a solid afternoon with a 66, but Nathan Scheer and Joe Mioduszewski said not so fast. They showcased the lowest of a 64 to take a two-stroke lead, going into the second round. The 64 matches what Skillin and Gorski shot in the first round in 2023, which gave them a comfortable lead that they ran with for the rest of the tournament. It should be interesting to see which of these 11 teams’ scores can hold up to make the Masters Flight after the end of tonight’s round. It will be a fun competition to watch to the finish, even with some spotty weather coming in that could affect course conditions.
Scheer and Mioduszewski tee off this morning at 8 a.m. from the seventh hole. Fern/Britton, Skillin/Gorski, and a handful of others will watch them and the rest of the morning session before teeing off at 1:30 p.m.
