CHENANGO COUNTY – Citing a moderate slowing of local sales tax collections, a new report from the New York State Comptroller’s Office shows sales tax in Chenango County has dipped even while collections statewide are up.
Local government sales tax collections in New York State totaled $5.83 billion in the second quarter, up 2.2 percent ($127 million) compared to the same quarter last year, according to the comptroller’s report.
While this growth was largely driven by New York City, all other regions of the state also saw increases.
Despite the raises, Chenango County garnered $7.72 million from April to June of this year, down from $8.12 million (5 percent) from the same time period in 2023. The county also saw a decrease of a half-percent in the first quarter.
