NORWICH – The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is very pleased to report that, by working together with many members of the community, we completed a thorough cleanup of the Railway corridor through the center of the City of Norwich in late July.
The Greenway’s Chenango Heritage Rail Trail (CHRT) team, in cooperation with the New York Susquehanna & Western (NYSW) Railway, the City of Norwich DPW, the Summer Youth Employment Program at The Place, and numerous community volunteers spent several days carefully picking up very large amounts of trash and disassembling several large encampments that had grown up along the Railway right-of-way over a long time.
The CHRT team would like to thank the Business Improvement District for the use of their equipment and the many other community members who worked together to make this event possible. Building on that success, the Greenway CHRT team is working to organize similar cleanup events along the course of the proposed rail-trail through Oxford, Greene, and Sherburne later this year.
The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity organized in 2006 to develop a network of multiple use recreation trails in and around the City of Norwich.
