EARLVILLE — The Earlville Opera House will be hosting Grammy award-winning bluegrass banjo player and co-founder of Compass Records Alison Brown at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 10 on the historic main stage.
Brown's unique sound transcends what many expect when it comes to the banjo. She said the instrument has a rich history in America dating back to the late 1800s, and she enjoys honoring that history while also plugging in the inspiration she finds from other musicians and musical styles.
"For musicians, I think you are what you eat. That kind of idea is really true. So I grew up in southern California in the 70s listening to all kinds of stuff, and as label co-founder at Compass Records I’m always listening to all kinds of stuff, and I feel like those different ideas just really seep into your subconscious and tend to come out," Brown explained.
