NORWICH — The Chenango County Democratic Committee held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 7 at their new headquarters, located in the former Community Bank at 18 South Broad Street in Norwich.
Chenango County Democratic Committee President Patti Giltner said the committee aims to encourage individuals to run for office, endorse candidates, and support them through their campaigns.
"The committee supports our candidates ... We meet once a month, and we raise money to support candidates, and then we give money out to candidates. We try to raise local awareness," she said. "We’re going to be doing house-to-house canvassing starting next Thursday. We will be doing phone banking. We will be doing postcard writing. We can do it all from this great office."
Chenango County Democratic Committee Member Dave Zieno added that the headquarters will also serve as a place for community members to learn more about local politics and upcoming elections.
"We’re starting to get some campaign signs, lawn signs and things," said Zieno. "We’re going to have the maps of the different districts for the senate district and the assembly district, so that if people come in and they want to know which district they’re in, we should be able to show them on the map."
