SHERBURNE — The Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center is starting a new tracking club, where individuals interested in nature and animals can learn to recognize the signs left behind by wildlife.
The club will begin at 10 a.m. on September 8, and will be held on the first Sunday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, located at 2721 State Route 80 in Sherburne.
Friends of Rogers Environmental Educator Ellen Rathbone said the meetings will be a blend of indoor learning and outdoor exploration.
"Depending on the day, we may be reviewing books, tools, techniques, but we hope that the majority of it will be outdoors on the trail actually looking for signs. So this could be actual animal tracks, some footprints in the mud or snow," she said. "It could be looking for squirrel signs on the side of trees. It could be looking at nuts that have been chewed; which squirrel did it? How do we know? What signs are we seeing? Looking for trails, looking for scat, looking at animal hair."
