CHENANGO COUNTY — The Place, The Pulse Coalition, Tobacco Free Zone, and the City of Norwich Youth Bureau have come together to offer a free "Floating Movie Night" for Chenango County teens at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20 at Kurt Beyer Pool, located at 91 Cortland Street in Norwich.
The event is open to Chenango County youth aged 12 to 18, and will include snacks; games, including ladder ball, can jam, corn hole, and ring toss; substance and tobacco use prevention information provided by Tobacco Free Zone and The Pulse Coalition; various activities; a raffle; and an 8 p.m. screening of "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."
"So at 6:30 we’re going to open it up and we’ll have can jam and corn hole, and a couple other games and activities, along with some snacks, and every activity that they participate in they get a ticket, and that ticket they can put in for a raffle to win something of their choice," explained Chenango Health Network SUD Coordinator Jessica Colley. "That’ll go until about 8 o’clock and then we’ll start getting into the pool. Hopefully, if the weather cooperates. And then hopefully we can float and watch 'Pirates of the Caribbean.'"
The organizations have purchased and collected donations of pool floats and noodles for teens to use in the pool while they watch the movie, and lifeguards will be on duty as well, courtesy of the City of Norwich Youth Bureau.
