SHERBURNE — The Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, located at 2721 State Route 80 in Sherburne, is starting a new tracking club, with its first meeting scheduled for Sunday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The club will be held on the first Sunday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, and will teach participants how to recognize the signs animals leave behind in nature.
"We don’t know what to look for. We don’t know what we're seeing even if we’re looking right at it. So it’s trying to educate people into what signs are out there, how to identify them, and learn who’s leaving all this sign around us," said Friends of Rogers Environmental Educator Ellen Rathbone.
She said the meetings will cover animal tracking topics such as tools and techniques, reviewing useful books, and getting outdoors to look for animal signs, including markings on trees, chewed plant life, and looking for other signs an animal has been in the area.
