SHERBURNE- The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office reported that a week ago, on Wednesday, August 28, two Village of Sherburne residents were arrested for second degree obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.

Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling an area in the Village of Sherburne when they observed James Alsheimer, who had two active arrest warrants, in the back seat of a car.

According the Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting, when a deputy approached the vehicle, the officer saw James lying down in the back seat, attempting to hide and avoid arrest.

Police reported that Alsheimer then fled on foot out of the vehicle and a brief foot pursuit began.

The sheriff's office reported the deputy quickly caught ahold of Alsheimer and began to arrest him, but the officer was interrupted by a third person aiding the suspect at the scene. A fourth person, a concerned citizen, would also eventually get involved.

The sheriff's office reported the deputy was “pushed off, and pushed away from James by Courtney Shedd.”

The sheriff's office also stated “Courtney and James were given several commands to stop, however did not.

“A concerned citizen approached the deputy with two combative subjects and helped bring James into custody.”

Shedd was then placed into custody for resisting arrest and obstruction and released. Alsheimer was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility for an active Chenango County Family Court Warrant. Both were scheduled to appear in court separately at a future date.

All crimes described in this press release are allegations, and suspects named are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
