NORWICH – The Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ soccer team kicked off its 2024 season on Wednesday night against Waverly. The game was played on the grass fields behind the stadium. Prior to the game, the Norwich City School District announced on their Facebook page that the new turf and track is nearing completion and can be used starting Monday, September 9. Norwich, under direction of former JV coach and new varsity coach Riley Lougee, fell to Waverly 3-1.

Waverly put the pressure on Norwich early on, limiting possession, and was able to move and pass the ball under pressure themselves. The Wolverines scored two goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead at halftime. Norwich had some good touches, but couldn’t connect to put shots on goal in the first 40 minutes.
