CHENANGO COUNTY - On Monday September 9, Commerce Chenango welcomed Tyler Oliver as the new director of economic development.
Oliver was born and raised in Norwich, a graduate of the Norwich High School class of 2007. He then attended Binghamton University, completing his BS in Human Development in 2012. Since then, Oliver has enjoyed residing and raising a family in Chenango County.
Professionally, Oliver has experience within both the nonprofit and small business sector, managing various teams and devising strategic initiatives to promote growth opportunities.
Oliver said, “I am committed to fostering a vibrant local economy, and look forward to collaborating with stakeholders, advocating for small businesses and championing initiatives that will create sustainable growth opportunities."
In this position, Oliver will develop and implement economic programs to support local businesses in Chenango County; focusing on growth, attracting businesses related to Micron and clean energy, and securing grants. Additionally, the role requires building partnerships, identifying market opportunities, and managing various economic development initiatives to promote the county's economic growth and success.
Commerce Chenango President and CEO Sal Testani is excited to add Oliver to the team, stating, “Tyler will be an excellent addition to our team at Commerce Chenango as Chenango County continues this period of economic growth. We are incredibly fortunate that a local leader and community member is stepping into this role.”
Oliver is not unfamiliar with Commerce Chenango, having served on the board of the Development Chenango Corporation. He also currently serves as the President of the Norwich Business Improvement District.
The Commerce Chenango team now includes five full time employees: President & CEO Sal Testani, Director of Economic Development Tyler Oliver, Office Manager John Holden, Program and Event Manager Barb Knowles, Communications and Marketing Coordinator Sophia Root, and two part time employees: Membership Development Director Lu Dick, and Tourism Director Audrey Robinson.
