SHERBURNE — The Sherburne American Legion Riders Post 876 are excited to have partnered with the Chenango County Suicide Prevention Coalition to bring the Be The One Charity Ride and Wellness Fair to our community during National Suicide Prevention Month. This community event will take place on Saturday, September 14 at the Sherburne American Legion Post 876, located at 15 South Main Street in Sherburne.
The American Legion is on a mission with their Be The One program, a national program that hopes to reduce the rate of veteran suicide and destigmatize asking for mental health support. A veteran is 50 percent more likely to take his or her life than a person who has never served in the military. This must stop.
The Wellness Fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with many agencies from the county and other organizations present with useful information to help someone recognize any individual who may be having thoughts of suicide and what we can do to help.
Registration for the Be The One Charity Ride begins at 9:30 a.m., with kickstands up at 11 a.m. The ride is approximately 80 miles, with stops in Cazenovia and Waterville before returning to Post 876. Ride participants will then have time to eat and visit the many agencies at the Wellness Fair.
This ride will be a "Dry Run," meaning no alcohol should be consumed while on the ride. Sherburne American Legion Riders Post 876 feel it is their responsibility to give their best effort to provide a safe ride for the public. The Post canteen will be open when the riders return.
The event will also include a basket and gift card raffle, with over 60 items. All money raised will stay local to help promote Be The One's mission and suicide prevention.
