HORSEHEADS – The game script flipped on its head within one week’s time.
Coming off an impressive season debut victory last week against Cortland – a 56-0 shellacking – Norwich’s football outfit never got untracked at Horseheads on Friday.
Horseheads scored the first six touchdowns over the opening three quarters and rolled to a 42-7 home victory on Friday night.
It was the second straight season where Norwich was coming off a 56-0 shutout win, only to see the Blue Raiders stem that momentum with a convincing victory over the Purple Tornado.
Horseheads beat Norwich 49-21 in week four last season.
“Horseheads is a great team, and they have a lot back from last year,” said Norwich coach Mike Chrystie. “They controlled the line of scrimmage, and we’re still young in some spots up front. By controlling the line of scrimmage, it made us one-dimensional. It wasn’t a good day to have a bad day against a team like that.”
Bryce Thomas rushed for 115 yards and three scores to lead the Horseheads offense.
Thomas had TD runs of one yard and 21 yards in the first quarter lifting his team to a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
The Blue Raiders scored two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters.
Colton Cox threw a pair of touchdown passes to Donnie Hatch in the second and third quarter respectively as the lead grew to 35-0.
