BAINBRIDGE – After picking up a close win against Oneida in their week zero game, the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats football team hosted Walton in their home opener. Coach Art Rigas had said in the outlook of the game for his team to come into the match-up being “fundamentally sound” and “eliminating mistakes” against a tough Walton team that sees the playoffs every year.
It’s safe to say that B-G did follow through Rigas plans as they picked up the 34-14 win in front of their home crowd. To start 2-0 is definitely a good sign in the Bobcats’ tough Section IV, Class D division.
B-G led 6-0 after the first quarter and then took a 18-8 lead at halftime. The Bobcats only let up just six points in the third quarter while scoring two more touchdowns with two two-point conversions.
Junior quarterback Connor Davy and the Bobcats offense rushed for 271 yards on the night with Davy paving the way with three touchdowns on the ground. He had 13 carries for 66 yards. Kaiden Seymour had 14 carries for 154 yards as Declyn Marshfield had four carries for 24 yards and Isaiah Hampton had three carries for 27 yards. Marshfield picked up 49 kickoff return yards and 20 punt return yards to finish with 176 all-purpose yards while Hampton had 40 yards on the kickoff.
