NORWICH– The Norwich Garden Club has been hard at work this summer, prepping and taking care of four garden areas in downtown Norwich.
As part of our civic duties within the organization, we have maintained three beautiful gardens by planting, weeding, mulching, and tending. The first garden is dedicated to the late Mary Jane Jacobi, a long-time member of the Garden Club. This rose garden is located in the back left corner behind the library, adjacent to Guernsey Street. It consists of pink roses, hostas, and bubblegum petunias.
The second garden is located on the corner of South Broad Street and West Main Street in Gordon Park, next to the water fountain. This crescent-shaped garden is planted with mother of thyme, various purple salvias, and purple and yellow petunias. It is bordered by white and purple ageratum.
The third garden located in front of the Colonia Theater. This garden has a variety of plants: red multiflora roses, lavender, lilies, zinnias of many colors, purple and white ageratum, autumn joy sedum, and several colors of coneflowers. This fall this garden will be dedicated to the late Marilyn Kochersperger, another very active and missed member of the Norwich Garden Club and City of Norwich resident.
Our final project this year was to weed, mulch and plant additional flowers in the corner of the YMCA at the corner of North Broad Street and Mechanic Street. The area already had some plants. We added hostas and astilbes.
The Norwich Garden Club is always looking for new members, young and old, male or female. If interested, please feel to check us out on Facebook under Norwich Garden Club, NY or email NorwichGardenClubNY@gmail.com.
