OXFORD - On Wednesday, September 18, the Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced a Village of Oxford resident was arrested for multiple felony charges.
Police reported the discovery a stash of illegally possessed weapons while serving an eviction notice to a convicted felon.
Thomas Toomer II, 43, is charged with two counts of second degree criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon, first degree criminal contempt and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the sheriff's office, “Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office responded to Toomer’s residence in the Village of Oxford to serve an eviction. Once Toomer and an additional occupant of the residence were removed, it was determined that the other occupant had an order of protection against Toomer. Toomer was then taken into custody without incident.
“During the eviction process, the new property owners alerted members of the Sheriff’s Office on scene, that they located several firearms, ammunition, and high-capacity magazines inside the residence. Toomer, who already had three previous felony convictions was transported to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office for processing.”
Toomer was arraigned in Village of Oxford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail pending an arraigned in Chenango County Court.
