GROTON – Greene’s young grid outfit was unable to sustain its early prosperity at Groton Friday night.

The Red Hawks moved to 3-0 on the season scoring the game’s final four touchdowns in a 28-6 8-man football division win.

Greene took the early lead on a long scoring run, and maintained that one-score lead until later in the second quarter after a pair of special teams mishaps.

“We played well overall, we just got worn down,” said Greene head coach Dave Gorton. “We were on the field (defensively) too much, and the offense didn’t move it consistently enough. We had breakdowns and penalties, and it’s one of those things that sort of got away from us.”

Greene (1-1) picked up where it left off from last week’s victory, scoring on a big run moments into the game.

After returning the kickoff to around its 40-yard line, Troy Braman took the next play the distance racing 60 yards for the opening score.
