NORWICH — Norwich Theater Company, Inc. (NTCI) is seeking cast and crew members for their upcoming producing of "Scrooge: The Musical."
"Scrooge" portrays the well-known story of "A Christmas Carol," in which the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former partner as well as the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future on Christmas Eve night.
"It is the familiar tale of ‘A Christmas Carol,’" said NTCI President and "Scrooge" Director Marty Kuhn. "There's party scenes and some neat dancing and some just a lot of fun. A little bit of ghosts going on, of course."
Kuhn said they still have available supplemental and ensemble roles in the show, and they're especially in need of kids looking to get on stage.
She said there is no particular age range they're looking for. Any kids who are comfortable performing on stage are welcome to join.
"All different ages. I mean, I’ve seen some three year olds and four year olds that were fine with that, but then I’ve seen some six year olds that weren’t ready for that yet, either. So the parents are going to know if they can be safe on stage, and we love to have parents, too," said Kuhn.
There are also non-singing and non-dancing roles available, and NTCI is looking for a music director for the show as well.
Anyone interested in joining the production can contact Kuhn at marty@norwichtheatercompany.org no later than Friday, September 27.
Kuhn said rehearsals will begin next week, and she anticipates rehearsals will be held three weeknights and one Saturday per week, but oftentimes cast members will not need to attend all weekly rehearsals.
"Not everybody has to be at every rehearsal. I try very, very hard to be very respectful of performers and tech people’s time," she said. "So I try to schedule somebody’s stuff all together, and then they can go when they’re done, or they don’t have to be at every night because they’re not in every scene. I don’t make everybody come and sit around and watch everybody else."
There are various technical assistance roles that go into producing a show as well, and Kuhn said they are still looking for individuals to help with sound, lighting, set construction, making and gathering props, hair, costumes, painting, set crew, publicity, ushering, and more.
Individuals interested in technical assistance roles can contact Kuhn at marty@norwichtheatercompany.org.
Looking forward to the rest of the season, Kuhn said NTCI is also seeking directors for their spring show, "Terms of Endearment," and summer show, "Nunsense: The Mega Musical."
Prospective directors don't need to have any directing or theater experience, although Kuhn said it is helpful.
"We don’t require it, but it’s very helpful, especially with a musical. A musical is a lot more complex. But we’re all about education and people learning, so we’re willing to entertain any applicants," said Kuhn. "If there are any directors out there who have ideas of shows they’d like to direct, we’d love to hear that as well."
Directors will receive a small stipend for their contribution to the show. Interested directors should send a letter of interest outlining their experience to marty@norwichtheatercompany.org.
