GREENE – Some of the execution errors that plagued Greene’s football team in last week’s road loss leaked into its home-opener Thursday night.

A bad punt snap led to an early Newfield score, and sundry other miscues conspired against a consistent rhythm on offense as Newfield handed Greene its second straight loss, 30-20, in Section IV 8-man football action.

While more of the execution foibles fell on special teams play a week ago, all three phases – offense, defense, and special teams – had issues, said Greene coach Dave Gorton.

“Defensively, we tackled very poorly,” Gorton said. “We had people not filling assignments and trying to do things individually instead of as a team. We didn’t really get anything from our defense that we expected.”

While total yardage was not available at press time, Newfield running back, Malcolm Jenkins easily eclipsed the 100-yard rushing barrier.

Jenkins had a TD in the first half and added a long TD score midway through the fourth quarter that extended Newfield’s lead to 22-12.

With less than two minutes to play, Jenkins had another long run that set up teammate Warrior-Malachi Miner’s one-yard TD run.

“(Jenkins) is a tough kid that finished runs,” Gorton said. “He never went down after the first guy contacted him.”
