NORWICH - Commerce Chenango would like to announce a staffing change in the Membership Development department.

Over a year ago when Lu Dick joined Commerce Chenango to grow the Membership Development awareness, she intended for it to be for a short time. Coming on board as a part time employee, Lu would fill the position until a full time hire could be found.

This part-time work soon turned full time, and Lu worked hard to secure 115 new members in 18 months. This achievement was record breaking for Commerce Chenango, and Lu states, “It was a pleasure serving new members by moving their businesses forward, getting them to trust the Mission of the Chamber, and to get to know each other.”

Lu has also helped with Commerce Chenango programs, gathering people and promoting new members. The event calendar has been full, with an anticipated 36 events over the 52 weeks of 2024.

Commerce Chenango is grateful for the time and services Lu provided, as she has decided to step down. Lu will be working only on special projects in the coming year. To pick up the reins, Terri Slater will begin the role of Commerce Chenango’s new Membership Director on Tuesday, October 1st.

Slater graduated from Sherburne Earlville High School and has stayed local since, starting her banking career at Community Bank at age 17. She has three adult children that live in the Norwich area and is an active participant in the local community.

Slater has 30 years of experience in the banking and finance arena, management, sales, and has volunteered extensive time in nonprofit organizations. Slater has served as Committee Chair for the United Way, is a Leadership Chenango Graduate, and is also involved in Catholic Charities.

Previously, when Commerce Chenango went by the Chenango County Chamber of Commerce, Slater served as Board President and served on various chamber committees. Slater attributes her volunteerism to her former boss, stating, “We always saw the Chamber as a tool, and I want to make sure other people see that too. I want to help businesses and communities succeed.”

In her new position, Slater will continue Lu’s work of gathering members and growing the value of Commerce Chenango membership. She says, “I used to help develop small businesses with lending options, and I am looking forward to helping in a different way.”

Commerce Chenango President and CEO Sal Testani states, “We have been incredibly fortunate to have Lu as part of our team. Her efforts have expanded our vibrant membership base. We are excited to welcome Terri and the fresh perspective she brings. I'm confident this transition will strengthen our membership development team, allowing us to build on Lu's great work.”

Rounding out the Commerce Chenango team is Program and Event Manager Barb Knowles, Office Manager John Holden, Economic Development Director Tyler Oliver, Communications and Marketing Coordinator Sophia Root, and Audrey Robinson working part time as she aims for retirement.
