NORWICH — The Guernsey Memorial Library, located at 3 Court Street in Norwich, will be hosting a wide range of free programs during the month of October, including crafts, clubs, kids' story hour, free movies, author talks, and more.

Magician and mind reader Gregg Dwyer will be putting on a spooky show in the Meeting Room at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 17. This all-ages event will include lots of audience involvement and mentalist-style mind reading.

To further celebrate the Halloween season, Guernsey Memorial Library has partnered with the Chenango Arts Council to provide a free movie series for the month of October. Movies will begin at 7 p.m. each Wednesday in the Chenango Arts Council's Martin W. Kappel Theater, located at 27 West Main Street in Norwich.

"It’s one from each decade, and we kind of add a little variety. There’s a comedy, a universal monster movie, some psychological horror movies, and one that’s a little more modern," explained Chenango Arts Council Administrative Assistant Mary Beth Miller. "So everybody can find something that they’d like to see."

This year's movies will include "The Invisible Man" on October 2, "The Lodger" on October 9, "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy" on October 16, "The Haunting" on October 23, and "Christine" on October 30.

Although most of the movies are a bit scary, Miller said they are not overly graphic and should be suitable for most viewers.
