PRESTON - Charter Communications, Inc. announced last week, the launch of Spectrum Internet services to 100 homes and small businesses in the Town of Preston.

Spectrum's multi-year Rural Construction Initiative represents an investment of approximately $9 billion. A portion of which we will offset with over $2 billion in government support funding that will ultimately connect approximately 1.75 million new homes and small businesses across the country.

"Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities in New York and across America," said John Connor, Area Vice President, Field Operations. "Our investment is making it possible to deliver the high-value broadband services now available in the Town of Preston. We are providing local residents and small businesses superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and 100% U.S.-based customer service."

"This new broadband and cable service is a significant milestone for our community," said Zachary Meseck, Town of Preston Supervisor. "Preston residents have been asking for access to cable and additional options for high-speed internet for years, and we are happy that this partnership will make it happen. "Thank you, Assemblyman Angelino, and your team, for connecting us with the right representatives, along with Senator's Griffo's Office for providing guidance throughout this process."

“Chenango County is one of the counties in the state with the largest proportion of homes lacking broadband access,” said Shane Butler, Director of Planning for Chenango County. “We are pleased Spectrum has reduced that number by connecting 100 residences in the Town of Preston. We look forward to working with providers, localities, and the State to build and extend networks to all homes in Chenango County so all residents can leverage connectivity for education, work, healthcare, and beyond to better their lives.”

“All residents and businesses deserve access to high-speed internet, which is instrumental in connecting to healthcare, work, school, and commerce. I’m pleased that Spectrum’s broadband service is now available to more rural New Yorkers, bringing us one step closer to closing the digital divide,” said State Assemblyman Joe Angelino.

Spectrum Internet delivers speeds up to 1 Gbps and advanced WiFi for residential and small business customers, featuring starting speeds of 500 Mbps, with no modem fees, data caps or contracts.

The service reported it can exceeded advertised download and upload speeds for all tiers measured — even during peak weeknight usage between 7 and 11 p.m., citing the FCC’s most recent “Measuring Broadband America Fixed Broadband Report.”

Spectrum Business Internet offers customers 1 Gbps download speeds, with 400 Mbps and 600 Mbps options. The company has also begun a network evolution that will provide gigabit upstream speeds and multiple gigabit download speeds across its entire 41-state service area.
