CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango County American Legion Auxiliary held their first meeting of the (fiscal) year on September 9, at the Lt. Warren E. Eaton, DSC Post #189, in Norwich. Members representing the six Auxiliary units were there from McDonough, New Berlin, Norwich, Oxford, Sherburne and South Otselic.

Special guest speakers were 6th D. President Sandie Baker from Unit 907 in Candor, and her VP, Kathryn Soule from Unit 876. The meeting was chaired by Marsha L. Cornelius, the Chenango County ALA president.
One of the topics of discussion was ALA membership, exciting memories, and sharing stories. Afterwards, County President Marsha presented a 2023-24 certificate: the “Department President’s Award” for membership to Fort Hill ALA Unit 376 for “Rejoining the largest number of members”, signed by President Karen St. Hilaire and co-signed by Kimberly Quick, Dept. chairman. Accepting the award were Unit 376 President Terrill Sutton and Membership Chairman Jeanie Petersen. The unit had 160 members this past year.
About to turn 100 years old, the Fort Hill ALA Unit will be in booth 43 at the OXtoberfest in LaFayette Park on Saturday, October 5, from 10 – 4. They will have membership forms, their events schedule, raffle tickets, and an invite to their Centennial Anniversary party Dec. 11.
